High Demand Occupations: Skill Set Analysis

 

  1. Automotive Mechanics and Machine Maintenance Mechanics - Adjust, repair and overhaul automotive and other machinery. May be designated according to specialties, such as brake repairers, transmission mechanics, or front-end mechanics.
  2. Machinists: Set up and operate variety of machine tools. Fit and assemble parts to make or repair machine tools and maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics such as blueprints, sketch or description of part to be replaced, and plan sequence of operations.
  3. Printing Press Operators - Operate or tend various types of printing machines, such as offset lithographic presses, letter or letterset presses, flexographic or gravure presses, to produce print on paper of other materials such as plastic, cloth or rubber.
  4. Precision Instrument Repairers - Install, test, repair, maintain, and adjust indicating, recording, telemetering, and controlling instruments used to measure and control variables such as pressure, flow,, temperature, motion, force, and chemical composition. Include instrument repairers who repair calibrate, and test instruments such as voltmeters, ammeters, and galvanometers.
  5. Precision Metal Workers - similar to precision instrument repair - specific to metal industry/properties of metals.
  6. Data Entry Keyers - Operate keyboard or other data entry devices to prepare data processing input on cards, disk, or tape. Duties include coding and verifying alphabetic or numeric data.
  7. Tellers - Receive and pay out money. Keep records of money and negotiable instruments involved in a financial institutions’ various transactions.
  8. Clerical and administrative support workers -
  9. Nursery Workers - Work in nursery facilities or at customer location planing, cultivating, harvesting, and transplanting trees, shrubs, or plants.
  10. Material Movers - Helpers, laborers, hand, distribution workers.
  11. Waiters & Waitresses - Serve food and/or beverages to patrons at tables. Usually take order from patron and make out check. May set table with linen and silverware and take payment from patron. May serve customers at counter as well as table.
  12. Computer support specialist - Provide technical assistance and training to computer system users. Investigate and resolve computer and hardware problems of users. Also answer clients’ inquiries in person and via telephone concerning the use of computer hardware and software, including printing, work processing, programming languages, electronic mail, and operating systems.
  13. Heating, Air conditioning, and refrigeration mechanics -
  14. Truck Drivers - Drive a tractor-trailer combination or a truck with a capacity of at least 3 tons, to transport and deliver goods, livestock, or materials in liquid, loose or packaged form. May be required to unload truck.
  15. Welders and Cutters - Use hand-welding and flame-cutting equipment, such as arc welders, gas welders, and gas torches, to weld together metal components of such products as pipelines automobiles, boilers, and ships’ to join together components of fabricated sheet metal assemblies; or to cut, trim, or scarf metal objects to dimensions, as specified by layout, work orders, or blueprints.
  16. Nursing Aides, orderlies, and attendants - Work under the direction of nursing or medical staff to provide auxiliary services in the care of patients. Perform duties such as answering patient’s call bell, serving and collecting food trays, and feeding patients. Orderlies are primarily concerned with setting up equipment and relieving nurses of heavier work.
  17. Dental Assistants - Chairside assistance,
  18. Medical and Clinical Laboratory Technicians - Perform routine tests in medical laboratory for use in treatment and diagnosis of disease. Prepare vaccines, biologicals, and serums for prevention of disease. Prepare tissue samples for Pathologists, take blood samples, and execute such laboratory tests as urinalysis and blood counts. May work under the general supervision of a Medical laboratory Technologist.
  19. Construction/contractors - licensed plumbing, sign, electrical, general
  20. Correction officers and Jailers - Guard inmates in penal or rehabilitative institution in accordance with established regulations and procedures. May guard prisoners in transit between jail, courtroom, prison, or other point, traveling by automobile or public transportation. Include Deputy Sheriffs who spend the majority of their time guarding prisoners in county correctional institutions
